So what do I do?
I’m a graphic designer. I’m a video editor. I’m a sound designer. I’m a musician. I’m tech savvy and a bit of a jack all trades. I’m a quick learner and I adapt quickly to new things. I love new technologies and I will go head first into learning something new.
What do I want to do?
If I could choose just one word to describe what I wanted to do, it would be “create”. I love art and music and how it can affect people. Having the ability to move people with your creativity is something I enjoy. When someone gets excited after seeing a poster you design or when someone taps their foot to a song you wrote, it’s a nice feeling. Seeing people get emotional watching a video you’ve created really gets you in the feels. It makes the effort and obstacles you faced, worth it. Those feelings drive me to want to do more.
The bottom line is that I like to think in new and exciting ways. I had a professor tell me that designers are problem solvers. We take the clients needs and figure out how to best implement something. We take the square peg that will not fit and rework it so that it does, and does so beautifully.
Interests
The other side of me is the “science guy” side. I’m an amateur astronomer and a perpetual student of how the natural world works. I also love rockets and I mean LOVE them. If you read my blog you can see that, just a bit. I’ve seen the Space Shuttle launch in person. I’ve followed various space programs extensively for the better part of the last decade. It’s fascinating and just cool. SpaceX anyone? I’m always looking forward to the next launch or to learn about what we’ve found on another planet or moon. I like to take time on the side and share my fascination with the wonders of nature with people. I think when people see you’re passionate about something, it can be contagious.
I love music. I’ve also played guitar for the better part of 25 years now. It is such an expressive instrument. I do poke at drums and piano as well but the guitar is my jam. I like to write whenever time permits and I’ve even devoted a page on my site to some original work created with Cubase – which you can check out here. I dabble in physical sciences a good bit. What I mean is that I like to show my kids chemical reactions and explain how they work. I like to work with optics because the way light works can be mesmerizing. Also, that knowledge is invaluable to someone who is a photographer. In my spare time I tinker with computers, I used to build my own but I’ve found it more cost effective to buy a good base model and upgrade it.
